Some options are:

  • Take public transportation, bike, or walk as much as possible
  • Carpool to school, work or play
  • Change your light bulbs to the energy efficient ones
  • Turn your thermostat down to about 68F Turn lights off when not in a room
  • Open windows to let natural light in rather than artificial light
  • Shutdown your computer when not in use, putting it on sleep still uses energy as it is on stand by
  • Buy fruits and vegetables that are in season, or even produced in your country/state/province Take showers not baths, as baths require more water, in addition take only 5-10 minute showers
  • Pack lunches in re-usable containers, do not use plastic bags or plastic utensils
  • If you are up to it become a vegetarian

These options all have to be evaluated against your local conditions. For example, being a vegetarian in Nunavut where veggies have to be shipped in for thousands of miles is not as eco-friendly as eating the local animal foods.
