The War of Regulation or Regulatory Movement was a war in North and South Carolina from 1765 to 1771. It was caused primarily by influx of population in the area which created a corrupt group of officials and lawyers who used law to their advantage unfairly at times against the planters who were the older inhabitants of the area. This lead to severe resentment against these new comers.

In South Carolina, the Regulator movement was an organized effort by backcountry settlers to restore Law and Order and establish institutions of local government.
