Money wasted on wars, space exploration, maitenance of a huge military branches. However, I wouldn't define poverty in the United States the same way as the poverty found in developing countries. Poor people in the US would be rich in developing countries. I think that poverty is not a proper term for those class of people. Perhaps lack of culture may be the cause of poverty for such people.
