Western civilization has many positive elements as well; it is full of people who work hard, take care of their families, support their communities, donate their money, their time, their talents to worthwhile causes. Not really like you see us on TV and in movies. I have lived in the US for many decades and from my perspective, a more powerful force than fear in our society is commercialism and consumerism.
