As an American Citizen you have the right to gather with friends and express that you disagree with the government. To protest what government officials are doing without prosecution.
Protesters protest about freedom of assembly because they feel strongly about this subject. The right to assemble and protest is a right that American feel strongly about and exercise when ever they choose to let others know how they feel about a subject.

The Nazis did not give people the freedom to assemble. Any dissidents were thrown into the Concentration Camps just like the "Undesirables". People literally feared for their lives.
