A civilized person is a person who follows the rules that wherever you live in must be followed.


For example in some countries you can't wear your shorts as a top and your top as your shorts. In others you can. But the countries are both civilized in their own way.

A person who is a risk-taker, and leader and a charitable person. Someone who stands up for their country/culture. Ex: Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., Oprah Winfrey, and Princess Diana are all civilized people.

What civilization is no more then a matter of opinion however suffice it to say that civilization is a state that a society finds itself in where for what ever reason the people philosophically know how to deal with each other and understand that there is a core of behavior that they should not step outside of. It should not be confused with (as it so often is) a superior or kinder, better or more productive system).

I hope this is not a homework question. Here are my answers based on sociology and theology:

• The person needs to be part of a community and able to function within that community with all its rules, taboos, mores, values and moral codes.
• The person would need to have language skills both written and oral or at least be semi-literate with the written word.
• The person would need to be able to dress, eat, converse, live in a proper home form (as is acceptable within his community and nation, not living in a cave or trash can for example), able to create and add to his life and others lives and appreciate other's efforts and contributions to the community.
• The person would also need good manners, be obedient, and able to get along with others and be a decent, good person within his community's culture.
• Some people define civil people as those with high culture and never acts like a trashy person. That is actually a statement of a snobbish person condemning those who are not well off and don't like the upper arts. In truth you can be a poor hard working person who loves blue grass music and art on TEE shirts and still be a very civilized person.

Uncivilized people usually don't really fit in with their communities and families according to their civil values. They can be crude, disobedient, unwilling to conform to the socially accepted norm.

Here is a historical comment for you to peruse. During World War 2 at the end of the war German Nazi Leader Hermann Goering was arrested by the Allied Forces. As he was being interviewed by the Nazi War Crimes prison warden Goering sat and answered the questions with the aid of a translator. Hours go by and he slips and answers a question in English. The Warden said, "Oh, so you do know English" and Goering said, "Of course, we are a civilized people."

The Warden was taken aback by his comment considering the atrocities the Nazis had committed against millions of people.

Now in our world society we do not allow murder, genocide, racism, or oppression of a people group. So you think about this: Were the Nazi leaders civilized? Most anti-Nazi Germans of the day felt they were gangsters, thugs and murderous heathens. The Americans and Brits considered them to be animals and evil, uncivilized people.

According to my definition of a person being civilized the Nazis would be considered semi-civilized but mostly mentally ill and definitely not obedient to the social mores and uncaring of their fellow people. Adolf Hitler did not even care when he own people died, he merely blamed them for not living up to he monomaniacal dreams. He did love the high arts and beautiful things but he loathed people as a rule. He was a racist and a genocide promoter therefore that would make him uncivil.
