An alien number refers to a numeral system or representation that is not commonly used or recognized in typical mathematical contexts, often created for specific purposes in Science Fiction or theoretical discussions. For example, in a fictional universe, an alien civilization might use a base-12 numeral system, where the digits include 0-9 and two additional symbols representing ten and eleven. Thus, the number "12" in our decimal system would be represented as "10" in their base-12 system.

There is not much difference and there is a LOT of difference! A visa number is assigned to a person entering the USA. It later can become his/her Resident Alien number if alien status is granted. An alien number (usually from your visa number) is assigned to you when you have been granted legal Resident Alien status.

I just recently lost my alien card and was at a loss when asked for an alien number to reapply for a new card. I finally called my birth country's consulate( in this case the Korean consulate in nyc) and they were very obliging to give me the alien # over the phone after a few questions.
