What is the effect of mining to a people?

Mining provides raw materials and energy that would not otherwise be available to a people. Remember, if it was not grown, someone dug it out of the earth. For example- a cell phone contains 34 different substances that were obtained by mining them. All metals- steel, aluminum, copper, gold, silver, and uranium- come from mining. Remember that prior to mining, humans were pretty much at the cave-man era of life- chipping rocks to make spear points.

Mining CAN cause damage to the environment if done improperly, but that can be controlled. Mining is also a major source of wealth to an economy, not only to the owner of the mineral that sells it, but to the persons paid to mine and process the mineral, and the persons that use the mineral.
