Pollution in the Great Lakes has significant ecological and health impacts, including the degradation of water quality and harm to aquatic life. Contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides, and excess nutrients lead to harmful algal blooms, which can produce toxins detrimental to both wildlife and human health. Additionally, polluted waters threaten local economies reliant on fishing and tourism, while also disrupting the delicate balance of the lakes' ecosystems. Efforts to address these issues are critical for restoring and preserving this vital natural resource.

The pollution of waters is very important.
This may be a stupid answer but it will help... We can all help cut down on pollution in the great lakes by reducing reusing and recycling. We can also try our best to avoid using harmful chemicals and if we do to dispose of them properly.

Yes, even though the Great Lakes are rather massive, they still are susceptible to pollution. This general fact sheet on the Great Lakes (http://www.epa.gov/glnpo/factsheet.html) provides an excellent explanation to your question: "In spite of their large size, the Great Lakes are sensitive to the effects of a wide range of pollutants. The sources of pollution include the runoff of soils and farm chemicals from agricultural lands, the waste from cities, discharges from industrial areas and leachate from disposal sites. The large surface area of the lakes also makes them vulnerable to direct atmospheric pollutants that fall as rain, snow, or dust on the lake surface, or exchange as gases with the lake water." I hope that helps!
