At one time the Trade unions or Workers Unions worked to improve the lives of their membership in wages, job protection, safety and benefits including medical and retirement.

As with anything though the unions are no longer dedicated so much to helping the membership as they are in obtaining and controlling power. They have become more and more unpopular because the membership is starting to see that what the unions have done for them is not sustainable and they may lose it all rather than reap the lifetime of rewards they were promised.
