Cesar Chavez galvanized the Latino migrant farm workers. people forget that the civil right era wasn't just about African Americans. latinos marched along side africans but when it came time to march with the latinos the blacks punk'd out.

Cesar Chavez led the grape boycotts. many people didn't think they were that successful, but just imagine how many bottles of wine weren't produced. or juice. or just grapes for regular consumption.

Cesar Chavez also promoted an interest in lowering high school drop out rates among Latino youth. in Arizona "Cesar Chavez Day" has always been more important to us than MLK Jr. day. we have several schools, libraries, and community centers named after him. one of the main arterial roads that bisects the city of Albuquerque, New Mex is the Avenida Cesar Chavez.

risk faced were like the ones for everyone else in the civil rights era. police brutality, denial of rights. many of his followers made targets of themselves just by supporting the "huelgas" (general strikes). Cesar Chavez is a great man and he really helped to forge the Latino identity to the future in the southwest.

He organized the UFW (United Farm Workers) union for people working in fields . Before Chavez workers had no restrooms, no breaks, given short racks/hoes which meant they had to bend over all day, were under paid, and cheated. He began the grape boycott of CA grapes that lasted 30 years. The work of the UFW still goes on because there are still farm workers who need protections.
