What will you do if you spill drinks on your guest?

You're in the bar, you've had a few, when all of a sudden you spill someone's drink. Here's what to do.Apologize. If you have just spilled someone's drink, you should apologize immediately and unreservedly. If they are a decent type, this should stop them from getting too agitated.Considering buying a replacement. Have a look at the damage. If you have just knocked their drink out of their hands all over the floor, then you need to replace it immediately. If you've only knocked an ounce of beer or two from the top of their glass, then it shouldn't be a big deal.

• Most people will be okay about it, and no replacement drink should be required. If they become confrontational, it would be best just to buy them a drink to save you the trouble

• Sometimes even after you've bought someone a replacement drink, they won't let down. They'll go on about your carelessness, how you've ruined their brand new shirt, and about the fact that they are all wet. These people are not worth your time. Either move to a different part of the bar, or leave altogether. After all, there are plenty of other bars out there.

Of course you want to immediately apologize for what was obviously an accident. But you don't want to go over-board with the apologies as it just draws more attention to an embarrasing situation and can cause your guest to be even more upset. Immediately ask that the guest come with you, telling her that "we" should try to get the stains out if possible, and to see that her outfit is at least dry. Offer guest a robe or dressing gown to wear while you discuss with her and try some tips you know of that might help....like putting salt on wet red wine to absorb the wine into the salt. If your guest feels these attempts are not going to work or that she doesn't want to risk further damange with a home remedy, say that you understand and ask if she will wear something of yours, or if you can run her home to change. Most importantly ask if she will allow you to cover the expense of having the outfit cleaned, or whatever is needed to revive it. Chances are your guest will say it is not necessary and if you can not persuade her that it would make you feel better if you were allowed to help fix the problem. That is as much as you can do. So get her back to theparty and let the guests make a few jokes abou the situation to lighten the mood and let the party continue. Accidents happen.
