Khalsa was initiated from the Greater Sikh Panth by the tenth Guru. The atrocities carried on by the Muslim rulers that is the Mughals were on the increase and as a result of there atrocities two of the Sikh Gurus were martyred by the hands of the bigoted Mughal rulers. The sixth Guru, grand-father of the tenth Guru did introduced militancy in the Sikh circle as the result of his father, the fifth Guru was martyred by the Mughal emperor. But was done in a very haphazard manner and not in a systematic manner.
Then again the ninth Guru, that is Guru Gobind Singh's father was martyred. The tenth Guru then looking into the history decided that when all other methods have failed to face tyranny it becomes necessary to use fore, a fact he wrote in his letter to the Mughal emperor who had killed his sons in battels.
But it should not be mistaken that there is any difference of being a Sikh or a Khalsa. The later is another form of a Sikh. J.S.Dugal
