On 24 December 1865, in Pulaski, Tennessee, six ex-Confederates got together to form a social, fraternal organization. Someone suggested they call it Kuklid, from the Greek word Kuklos which means circle. They decided upon Ku Klux and it appears they just added Klan to the end of it to indicate it was a family-like organization.
