Chevron. Merger in 2001. See link.
Texaco gas is owned by Chevron Corporation. Chevron acquired Texaco in 2001 as part of a merger, and the Texaco brand continues to be used for gasoline and convenience store operations under Chevron's umbrella.
I believe that Texaco was a simple shortening of the Texas Company, one of the early oil companies.
Texaco, originally known as the Texas Company, was founded in 1901 in Beaumont, Texas. The company emerged during the Texas oil boom following the discovery of oil at Spindletop Hill. Texaco quickly grew to become a major player in the oil industry, expanding its operations across the United States and internationally.

Yes, Chevron owns Texaco. Chevron acquired Texaco in 2001 as part of a merger, and Texaco has since been consolidated into Chevron's operations. Although the Texaco brand still exists in some markets, it operates under the Chevron umbrella.
