Why are poor people treated badly?

The poor people are usually treated unfairly by being denied employment opportunities yet they are qualified. They are also treated unfairly by displaced from their lands and farms without compensation.

Because of materialism, which is Atheism's little sibling. Those who believe only in material things, and have no God and no soul, tend to judge themselves and others only according to a materialistic barometer. They say "How much is he worth," considering only the person's monetary assets. The wealthy are looked up to, and the poor are despised. Such a view invariably brings unhappiness in its wake, which results in the modern world's increase in divorce, suicide, addictions, depression, etc.

There are different reasons from different perspectives.

Many religionists develop a sense of entitlement thinking they are the chosen ones the elite members of the family of God. They feel this gives them the right to look down upon others who are not one of them. These believe that the poor have brought on their own problems and if they haven't prospered it is because they have not done the necessary things to please God. They think they are solely responsible for their own good fortune failing to acknowledge that their ancestors made if possible for them to prosper while others had no such supportive histories to build on.

Many of the religious think they only need to care about those of their own kind and can comfortably ignore those in need who are different. They reveal themselves by injecting religion and their perceived religious superiority in everything they say, which most of the time is inappropriate. Of course, they ignore their own shortcomings while condemning others. Fortunately there are many extremely caring religious groups who spend their lives helping the poor rather than blaming them.

Non-religious reasons why the poor are treated badly, and perhaps more universal, are simply because they are powerless and vulnerable and lack the resources to improve their own lives.

Poor people are treated badly by those richer because they can without any apparent negative results. Not all rich people treat poor people badly.
