People from the poorest countries often believe life will be better somewhere else. So they try to leave their country to find work and seek a better life. Some apply for a visa and come to the more developed countries like England, Israel, Turkey, or the United States; but others cannot afford the money for the needed documents and decide to come anyway. They feel desperate and they believe that if they cannot get to a new country the legal way, they will sneak in and try to get a job.

Often, they end up in a "shadow economy," stuck in menial or dangerous jobs that the legal citizens do not want; and it turns out they have no easy way to move up or improve their situation. But in spite of this, illegal immigrants continue to try, in the belief that they will be able to somehow achieve a better life for themselves and their family. Many are caught and sent back to their former country, but others find a way to remain in the new country: as bad as being an illegal (or undocumented) immigrant may be, they feel it is better than the country they came from.
