It hampers the development of societies, when an entire of half of the population cannot be as productive and successful due to arbitrary laws and preconceived notions both concerning a "man's role" and a "woman's role". There is no reason why a man cannot aspire to love and care for his family or a woman cannot aspire to be a career executive. Yet, we impose both legal and behavioral limits to expressly prevent the manifestation by each of their chosen identity. These impositions are gender discrimination.

Discrimination is a learned behavior, which means equally that we can unlearn it as individuals and as societies.
