The smallest committee is 2 people after that the size limit is pretty vague.
In general, studies indicate that committee works best with about ten (5 to 15) members. Bigger than this the extra people do not take a fully active part.

Common examples:

  • Nearly all team games use a group of about ten on each side.
  • Juries have 12 members.
  • The Jewish minyan (the basic unit for prayer and other rites) requires ten people.
  • In an army squards or sections adopt a basic unit of about ten; the British army, the US Army, the ancient Roman army and that of Genghiz Khan.
