No same-sex couples have legally married in Virginia although same-sex marriage is legal in Virginia effective February 14, 2014, pursuant to court order. However, same-sex couples are temporarily barred from marrying in Virginia until the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled on the appeal. The Governor and the Attorney General of Virginia both refuse to defend the law in court.
