The mass media can have great influence on politics. With television, radio, internet and digital forms of media, people are inundated with media 24 hours a day. Long gone are the days where the morning newspaper and the evening news were the only outlets for people to find out what was happening in the world.

It's not as simple as your question implies. While people are influenced by the political ads seen on TV, cable, and now Netflix, Hulu, and the newer media, the better question is "who pays for, and sponsors those ads?" The answer is special interest groups funded by unlimited corporate contributions, and those several conservative billionaires such as the Koch Bros and Sheldon Adelman who spent dozens of millions of dollars in the 2012 and 2014 national elections. The media is only the messenger - they are not responsible for the message.

One way that media affects politics is that it enables politicians to reach more people. Television ads and Internet ads are used to get their message to the public.
