Texas is notoriously humid 24/7 and you want the Tyvek to prevent any moisture from getting into the house--brick and stone may not be enough over time, since if the cement fails, then you have moisture in your house and drywall, not to mention possibilities of being hospitable for termites. Just get the Tyvek, or something similar, and you won't be sorry.
