Geographically it is a Mid-Atlantic state however sociologists would call it a southern state,

Virginia is definitely a southern state. Virginia is actually considered a South Atlantic state, and is located in the Southeast region of the U.S. Most Virginians would not consider themselves Mid-Atlantic, and would never consider themselves Northeastern either. The culture and wildlife is southern. There are live oaks, spanish moss, bald cypress trees, and many more. Popular agricultural crops grown in Virginia are cotton, peanuts, corn, and tobacco. Richmond, Virginia was the capital of the Confederacy during the American Civil War.

How many continents are there where Spanish is spoken?

Primarily in North and South America, and of course Europe, but there are a number of Spanish speakers everywhere (in the Philippines in Asia, in North Africa, for example). If you don't include the Carribean as a part of North America/South America, its spoken there too.

Is Maryland in the east or south?

It is in the Mid-Atlantic region of the US and yes it south of the Mason Dixon line. It is east of many places like California or even Indepence Missouri but that should not be used to paint it with a broad brush that condemns it as some type of Yankee Speaking fortification. It is a very cosmopolitan state with a pinch of Applachia and a smidgen of Dixie.
