Stratification is very much a creation of society. It is best seen why when we look at the family. The family has a certain social hierarchy. Very rarely will a father and a child, mother and daughter, hold different social positions in a society. From the family aspect of stratification, we can see that the social position is passed down generation to generation. Though we can move up or down at any given time, this passing of position shows that stratification is not just a reflection of individual differences, it is a creation of society.
