That has been the great question! When you live in India, this question continue to bother you. The caste system in Hinduism is deep routed. It does not have any scientific reason behind the same. In ancient times, you had four 'varnas' or divisions in the society. They were supposed to be, Brahman, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra. The Lord Krishna has said in Bhagwadgeeta that 'Chaturvarnyam maya strustam, gunakarma vibhagshha.' That means God says, 'I have created the four divisions in the society as per the nature and work of the individual'. ( And not as per the birth!) The God was bypassed and the Hindu religion was divided into sections as per the birth of the individual. Later on the four divisions were divided into more and more sub-divisions. So what you have in your hand was caste system in Hindu religion. This was done on various basis like the nature of work and on the basis locations and on some other reasons. The Shudras and females were denied the right to get the education. This lead to downfall of the humanity and nation as a whole. So the caste system has evolved over the time and no body made it.

The Caste System in India is believed to have originated from ancient Hindu scriptures known as the Rigveda, with influences from historical developments and invasions over time. The system divided society into four main categories: Brahmins (priests), Kshatriyas (warriors and rulers), Vaishyas (farmers and traders), and Shudras (laborers). Outcastes, known as Dalits, were marginalized and considered beyond the caste system.
