That has been the great question! When you live in India, this question continue to bother you. The caste system in Hinduism is deep routed. It does not have any scientific reason behind the same. In ancient times, you had four 'varnas' or divisions in the society. They were supposed to be, Brahman, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra. The Lord Krishna has said in Bhagwadgeeta that 'Chaturvarnyam maya strustam, gunakarma vibhagshha.' That means God says, 'I have created the four divisions in the society as per the nature and work of the individual'. ( And not as per the birth!) The God was bypassed and the Hindu religion was divided into sections as per the birth of the individual. Later on the four divisions were divided into more and more sub-divisions. So what you have in your hand was caste system in Hindu religion. This was done on various basis like the nature of work and on the basis locations and on some other reasons. The Shudras and females were denied the right to get the education. This lead to downfall of the humanity and nation as a whole. So the caste system has evolved over the time and no body made it.
Yes, caste system is the caste discrimination because one caste person cannot marry another caste person. It is forbidden by the Hindu clergymen - the original perpetuators of the Laws of Manu - social jurisprudence. Pleas also see: What is the caste division?

The caste system is a part of Indian culture
The caste system is considered a fixed social class system because it is a hereditary system where individuals are born into a particular caste and their social status is predetermined based on their caste. Movement between castes is traditionally not allowed, resulting in fixed social stratification.
The caste system in India traditionally lacks social mobility, as individuals are born into a specific caste and are expected to adhere to its social roles and occupations. However, efforts are being made to promote social mobility and equality through affirmative action policies such as reservations in education and employment for historically disadvantaged castes. Despite these measures, social mobility remains limited for many lower caste individuals.
