The United States of America has been a major migration point since Columbus came to the New World, even though he didn't initially come to land that would be the US.

It is seen so often as the land of opportunity, where all your dreams can come true. And although many of us who have been born here don't recognize the US as such, it's all we know and have ever known, people almost always come to the US to escape persecution, poverty, or political turmoil of one fashion or the other.
