Teenagers carry knives for multiple reason. It matters on age and what type of knife it is. For fixed blades most likely for crime since carrying one is illegal in the first place. With folding blades half is for self defense and the other half of teenagers carry it for crime. If it is a multi tool then it is for general purposes like using the gadgets on it. I am a teen myself so this is coming from a person who experiences and carries legally almost all the time (not including school, airports, church, and other morally or legally wrong) and i carry for self defense and for multi tools for general purposes.
