Simplify the top and you get 15-16X. The bottom is all ready as simple as it gets.
In this type of problem we have 15/5=3 and16X-X--5x. So the answer is 3-5X and X may not equal -5.

If the question is simplify (2x3 + 7x2 - 16x-5)/(x + 5), then (x + 5)(2x2 - 3x - 1)/(x + 5) = 2x2 - 3x - 1
