There are two ways that a scammer is ripping people off on Craigslist! First, it happens when the consumer posts something for sale... A scammer reply with an email stating that they are on the mainland. They are having a problem getting to a western union and will gladly send you the extra money to ship your product to them. They ask for your PayPal email (which is fine to give out), and then they send you fake confirmations stating that money has been deposited into your account. These emails are fake... You can always call PayPal directly if you have any questions: 1-888-221-1161

Paypal has a service where you can send the fake emails you receive as long as they are emails claiming to be from PayPal. Basic Craigslist emails are not accepted. You can send those to the FBI, but there is a form and it takes time. You can send PayPal scam emails to: spoof@paypal.com

The second way that a scammer uses Craigslist is to post a property for rent and then accept the rental moneys by PayPal. This is the hardest Hawaii scam because how do you the renter know that the property for rent is a real property. People are actually renting places, traveling to Hawaii, and then finding they have no place to stay! This is just horrible...

DO NOT SEND MONEY THROUGH WESTERN UNION TO ANYONE FROM CRAIGSLIST!

You can rent through PayPal but you should check to see that the PayPal user is a "verified" account holder. If you ever have a question regarding PayPal you can call them! They will get to you in just a few minutes...

Yikes - this is why "cash only" transactions are best for this kind of thing... Assuming the item wasn't worth a huge amount (say, greater than $10K) you can probably sue via small claims court, which shouldn't cost you much more than the cost to file forms, if that. Hopefully you did not give him a receipt. Cause if you do go to small claims court. He might just be sly enough to claim he already paid you in cash and you actually stole the check from him. You can go to small claims court in most states for anything over $100 but under $1,000 to $5,000 in some places. $10,000 and up in most states and it is no longer a small claim. If he gave you a blank check and you try to sign it yourself and cash it. Which he might actually is hoping you will do. Then he can pursue criminal action against you for forgery. Sounds like this guy knows what he is doing and probably has done this before. Sounds like you were part of a scam from the get-go. The check is probably not his and is stolen. Hopefully the guy gave you some legit contact info and you can call law enforcement on him for fraud.

Any W4M or W4W are usually singles / adult ads. The T in T4M probably stands for "transexual". It's a good thing you don't know.

If you cant get email to go thru using the Craigslist link.... its probably because the ad maker has some kind of block on his incoming messages.... Just shoot CL a note. There is a link in every ad that asks if you cant contact person to let them (CL) know... CL will let person that listed know a problem exists... Then wait.
