How can you tell if a pregnant guppy is ready to have fry?
The female guppy will be very large and will have a gravid spot near her anus. But when she is ready to give birth she will be very still and huddling near the heater in your tank.
When does the black spot go away on a pregnant guppy?
The black spot will not go away as it is the eyes of the fry through the pale skin of the guppy. As the pregnancy progressess, the (black) gravid spot will get darker, and the fry will mature.
Any kind of fungus on a fishes fins indicates either physical damage or poor environmental conditions. The first thing I would do is replace the fishes water making sure the temperature is the same as the water being replaced to avoid temperature shock I would also add 1 level teaspoonfull of cooking salt per gal. to the replacement water. I would perform regular 50% water changes daily for about 2 weeks adding the required amount of salt each time. When the fungus has gone and the fish is well again I would stop adding the salt to the water but I'd continue with at least a 50% waterchange weekly.
The Guppy is native to Central America and the Caribbean. Venezuela, Trinidad etc.
Does glo-fish and guppies get along?
I made the mistake of adding 2 male guppies in with my 3 Glofish. The Glofish are so hyper that they got to picking on the guppies and eventually eat their tails...killing them. If you have a number of guppies and glofish, I would suggest a larher number of guppies to glofish. (Also female Glofish tend to be a little more aggressive, but get along great with my Dalmation Mollies.
Hope this helps!
How do you save the baby guppies without using a tank and plants?
Sometimes guppy fry will find places to hide themselves. They want to keep alive so they probably will move around a lot. If you see that some of them are getting chased a lot every day, I would put them in a breeding tank so they won't get stressed.
How many babies do guppies have?
well ym guppies have recently had babies and she had forty..everytime my guppies have babies they have forty also its a well known fact that guppies give birth to forty at a time..the babies are known as fries and they are so tiny and see through at first so yuu cannot see them...anyway not all of these forty babies will live...you will be lucky if ten survive.....you can tell male and female between colours and the tail size...boys are more colourful and have massive beutiful tails...girls are more thin (unless they are pregnant) also their tails are quite small and their colours are quite plain...yuu shud have more girls they say 1 boy tuu three girls so do not get 2 or more boys and only have one girl.otherwise the female shall not breed because she feels like she is being chased....also you have to be careful with what fish you put in with the guppies because if they eat the babies deliberatly or accidently you may end up with no babies every month...oh yh and just one more important fact..... once the female has been bread and you don't want her to have anymore babies the first thing yuud usually do is take the males out to stop them bredding that's wrong though because they shall not stop breeding without or wioth boys because once they have been bread they don't stop...so as horrible as it sounds if thry get a bit to much out of control with the babies get a fish that will eat the babies and not the guppies so yuur tank will keep nice and under control...
hope i helped...i know i gave more info than you needed but.....lol
hope i can help ....x
4-60 based on my experience.
At each birth, the female can have anywhere between 4 and 60 or more babies.
Guppies can have 100 to 200 fish at a time.
The amount of fish that are born depend on how healthy, and how is their condition.
but under conditions 0 to 200 can survive
If your guppy is young and it is its first litter than about 10 to 15 but if it is older and has had a few litters than about 20 to 200.
How fat does the female guppy get?
depends on how much you feed it. One time, my neighbors' male guppy was AS ROUND AS A quarter!!!
Newborn guppy fry are typically about the size of an uncooked grain of rice, some a little larger. Depending on the type of guppy and the sex, they can grow to a maximum size of about 3 1/2 inches.
Guppies are tropical fish, so they breathe using their gills.
Hi peeps!
The Female guppies that are going to give birth will be behaving in an erratic behaviour, swimming around very 'jerkily. A small hatchery will be good as this will enable the frys to drop into the base and prevents the female guppies on feeding on them.
The fry will come out like head first and then followed by the tail. If ever you see one that is 'folded' up (i.e the tail curl up and touch the head), mostly it is dead already when birth. However, some managed to survive after the female guppy swim over it and shake it open.
A hatchery is much recommended.. Preferably to place the pregnant female alone as it requires a quiet and stress free environment to give birth.
Will bumble bee gobys eat baby guppys?
The Goby (Freshwater) eats small live foods, so, yes, they do eat baby fish. :)
Does Tasmanian wolves lay eggs or have live birth?
As far as I know. There is no such living thing (animal) as a Tasmanian wolf. The nearest thing was the Tasmanian Tiger (Phylocene) and it is reputed to be extinct. It was a marsupial which means it gave birth to young not eggs.
How do you encourage more babies from a guppy female like more fertile eggs?
You do the same thing for a Guppy as you would do for any fish you wish to breed with. You go way better than the minimum requirements for the amount of water they need, and you feed the fish some livefood at least a couple of times every week. Guppies are of course livebearers so they will never lay eggs. The basic rules for keeping any kind of fish are. 1 inch of fish needs a minimum of 1 gallon of water.(for breeders, at least 3 gallons per inch) :- Every tank needs a permanently running cycled filter. Every tank needs to have at least 50% of it water changed every week. Comply with the above rules and your fish stand a chance of surviving. Fail to comply with them and I can guarantee that your fish will have constant health problems.
Should you turn the filter off when your guppy is pregnant?
No, you do not have to turn the filter off. I just bought a pregnant guppy, and i just cut off the leg of some old tights, and wrapped them around the filter so the babies can't be sucked in. It's easy, and there's no mess. Hope this helps!
