First Generation models ie. those that were released first were fully backwards compatible and played PS2 and PS1 games as well as PS3 games. The second generation of the PS3 also which also had 4 USB ports were also Backwards compatible with many of the PS2 games. All other PS3 models lack the backwards compatible feature and are not considered to be Backwards compatible. see related link.

It will probably depend on the game since if a game pushes it harder it may make it louder especially when the developers get better at pushing the hardware to the performance limits. The early games may allow the system to operate quietly especially since some may be ported to the PS4.

Take advice from your own sources as well as mine. My thoughts on consoles compared to PC is that a console is more reliable when it comes to gaming. A PC is great for those to enjoy gamming even modding the games they play. One downside is that with PC's is they start to slow down after several years of use. Gaming consoles tend to last for many years. As goes for whether the PS5 or Xbox Series X will be the best, only time will tell as more specs about both consoles are released later this year in 2020.

It depends on what you are looking for in a console and what kind of games you would like to play. If you are on the move a lot and want to play games on the go then the Nintendo Switch is definitely the right choice. The Nintendo Switch is also the only choice when you want to play Nintendo games such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The PS5 is a more powerful device and it is mostly for gaming at home. It allows you to play a couple of new games coming out such as Godfall or Demon’s Souls.

Overall is it really just up to what you are looking for in a console but my personal choice would be the PS5 for the exclusive games
