Qantas QF32, the scheduled A380 flight from London to Sydney, takes off each day at 12:05.

From a pure free-market economy perspective, it looks unreasonable for several European governments to finance the development of airliners which go on to compete with products self-financed by Boeing, who have to incorporate the development costs in their overheads, making their products more expensive and therefore less competitive.

But it's much more complex than that. Boeing are not just in the civil airliner business and receive huge revenues for their military products and military development projects, revenues that are directly provided by the US Government and which are effectively protected from competition due to US reluctance to source defence equipment from overseas companies.

You could argue that both companies are being directly supported by government money, but only one of the companies is being honest about the support.

The in-flight entertainment systems installed on aircraft are entirely at the discretion of the operating airline and the route that they are flown on.

Generally, domestic short-haul fit outs exclude the entertainment system. The A320 is mostly used for domestic short-haul, so on balance, NO is probably an accurate answer.

The next new aircraft from Airbus is the mid-sized A350, comparable in size to Boeing 777/787.

Airbuses have a telemetry system called ACARS, for Aircraft Communication Addressing and Reporting System, which transmits the same data that is recorded on the aircraft's black box. ACARS reported the pitot-static system had failed.

On July 2, the French equivalent to the National Transportation Safety Board reports the plane was intact when it hit the water. Plus, there's a history of pitot tube problems on these planes. So they're working on what they think the actual problem is.
