Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand were Amerigo Vespucci's main patrons, but he also sailed with assistance from Portugal. After moving to Spain in 1492, Vespucci began taking jobs on ships and seven years later went on his first voyage. His voyages took him to what is now modern day Brazil and Argentina.
King Ferdinand named Amerigo Vespucci the Chief Navigator of Spain. Amerigo Vespucci had the responsibility of planning the navigation for the voyages to the Indes.
Amerigo Vespucci is believed to have died on February 22, 1512 of malaria. He was an Italian explorer, navigator and cartographer, whose name the Americas derived from the feminized Latin version of his first name. His name was given to North and South America because he was the first to recognize that it wasn't part of Asia. This led the mapmaker, Martin Waldseemuller, to consider him instead of Columbus, as the man who discovered America.

This link refers to a Harper & Brothers Publishers, February 1907 book authored by Frederick Albion Ober.
The book's given explanation simply states that "Amerigo" would be the Italian name, and "Americus" is the Latinized version of the same name.
I have also seen another account of the changed name attributed to being his grandfather's name.
My early school recollection of 40 years ago is how fortunate we are to be known for his "first" name as opposed to the family name. Imagine, North and South Vespucci, or the Vespuccian continent........The United States of Vespucci?
It could have been!
poor old Robert
He was born in Italy. He owned a bank there until his business partner died in 1495. He then explored. He became the Master Navigator for Spain(where he then lived) in 1508. He died in Seville, Spain of Malaria.
Asia paid for vmerigo Vespucci to sail around the world.
Amerigo Vespucci (spelled Americus Vespucci in Latin) was an Italian navigator who made four voyages to the Americas between 1499 and 1502. Two accounts of his explorations and maps were published between 1502 and 1504, and a world map published in 1507 by cartographer Martin Waldseemuller named the new continent America in his honor.
what were the weather conditions for Amerigo Vespucci's voyage
Amerigo Vespucci explored much of the northern coast of South America in 1499 and 1500, and possibly explored the eastern coast on a later expedition.
