The first characteristics are size, shape and weight of the bullet, since that will direct attention towards a given group of firearms- a bullet is about .357 inches in diameter we know was NOT fired from a .22 or a .45. Next are the marks engraved on the surface of the bullet by the rifling of the gun. Those marks, known as striations, can help narrow our search for the type of gun. The number of marks, and the direction and rate of twist are key. Finally the striations have microscopic marks. Those can be matched to the only gun that will produce identical striations.

No - neither a semi-automatic .357 Magnum nor a semi-automatic .357 Sig will. .357 Magnum revolvers can fire .38 Special rounds because 1: they feed from a cylinder which can accommodate the shorter .38 Special round and 2: unlike a firearm with a chamber, the cylinders in a revolver do not need to be headspaced.

The Ammo racks were each side of the gun on the upper hull sides, rounds were stored horizontally 2 deep and 4 -5 high, this may not help but the configuration was similar to the later ISU 152 However the angle of the hull is different and allows for 2 racks forward and two aft where in the ISU 152 there are 3 racks one side 2 aft and 1 forward, and two aft on the opposite side with a few additional rounds stored up right.

To get the best acurecy out of a 300 win mag would be to start reloading;moly coated 175 grain sieara matchking, N560 vita vuri powder and winchester brass. Expierment with with diferent charges I had the best luck with 75gn. BUT! the older models can not take that hi of charge. Seat the bullet out to about five thou. behind the rifling. but if you dont want to reload then the best ammo would be

I was in 64th Finance section in Quang Tri in '71. The dump went up sometime in August of '71. It rained ordinance down on top of us several miles from the dump. EOD squads had to remove M79 grenade rounds from our compound.

What it is chambered for. SHould be marked on the barrel. Have a gunsmith check it out.

The M82 was made in 2 calibers. The original used the .50 BMG cartridge, which fires a bullet that is .510 inches in diameter. The weight of the bullet varies depending on WHICH bullet is used, but is in the area of 700 grains weight. The later version of the M82 was made in caliber .416 Barrett. This is, as the name suggests, a .416 inch bullet that weighs 400 grains.
