It strictly depends on which two specific items you are comparing. Bullets travel various speeds, as do airplanes. Some bullets are faster than some planes, and some planes are faster than some bullets.

17 HMR and .17 Mach II are nice fast little rounds. The HMR is necked down from the .22 magnum the Mach II necked down from a .22 long rifle. They are nice target rounds and good for squirrels, rabbits, ground hogs and even coyote with a well placed shot if it's within 50 yards or longer distance for the .17 HMR. they would be good for raccoon if trapped or feral cats should the need arise. They could easily kill a 300 pound hog for butchering if shot behind the ear. They are little bullets, but very fast and still dangerous so be sure of your target and the region beyond.

Can a 22 cal long rifle shell be shot in a 22mag rev?
It depends... some revolvers are specifically made with two separate cylinders. To give you an example, my 1962 vintage Ruger Single-Six as a cylinder for 22 Magnum and one for 22 Long Rifle. If the revolver you are referring to only has a 22 Magnum cylinder, then No, you can not safely shoot 22 Long Rifle cartridges in it, as the cases will rupture in the cylinder, and result in hi-pressure blow-back gases.

You, of course, will probably pay a premium for it, but that is the way it is for niche items in most industries. Just Google .38 Rimfire ammunition, and you will find a plethera (well, more than one) of companies that will gladly sell you some .38 rimfire ammo. Just please be sure that you KNOW what caliber the gun actually is, and that the pressures used in loading the ammunition you buy are not going to exceed the capabilities of the gun to safely discharge those rounds. Antique guns, in my opinion, should be kept in a case or sold to the highest bidder. Tip: If it's hard to find ammo for, don't shoot it! Glocks are much safer.
