Anesthesia

Anesthesia can be local, regional or generalized. The purpose is to allow for procedures without the patient feeling pain. This can be anything from having a tooth pulled to open heart surgery. The different levels of anesthesia can cause an area to be numb all the way to putting the patient in an induced coma.

Side effects of general anesthesia cyclosporine predisonole?

Effects of Cyclosporine on Anesthetic Action Vincent N. Cirella, MD, Carol B. Pantuck, BA, Young Joo Lee, MD, PhD, and Eugene J. Pantuck, MD Received from the Department of Anesthesiology, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, New York, New York. Abstract The effects of a single dose of cyclosporine on anesthetic actions of pentobarbital and fentanyl were studied in mice. Mice given pentobarbital 2 hr after receiving cyclosporine, 60 mg/kg, slept a statistically significant 2.3 times longer than did controls. In a second study, each of two dose levels of cyclosporine was given before each of four dose levels of fentanyl. The analgesic effect of fentanyl, measured with the abdominal constriction test, was dose-dependent. Cyclosporine significantly increased the analgesia produced by fentanyl and did so in a dose-dependent manner. Cyclosporine by itself did not produce analgesia. Plasma levels of fentanyl and binding of fentanyl by plasma proteins were unchanged by cyclosporine treatment. The results show that a single dose of cyclosporine can increase pentobarbital hypnosis and fentanyl analgesia in mice but do not establish the mechanism of these interactions. Key Words: IMMUNE RESPONSE, SUPPRESSION—cyclosporine • INTERACTIONS (DRUG)—cyclosporine, anesthetics

Do you need anesthesia when undergoing dental implant?

Dental implants are implanted by surgery under anesthesia. The first step, the titanium screw is implanted into the jawbone. Next, stitches are made to the surrounding gum to prevent bleeding and to make the healing process faster. Once the gum line heals fully, the crown is built over the titanium implant. The crown is constructed from porcelain or composite materials. It is built in such a way that it matches closely with the surrounding teeth.

Does surgery for intestinal adhesion removal present greater risk of ARDS from the anesthesia than do other surgical procedures requiring general anesthesia?

I am interested in hearing the story of the individual posting this question. We in the last 6 weeks nearly lost a dear friend with ARDS following routine lysis of post colectomy adhesions. Our friend was treated with aggressive chemo and radiation prior to a partial colectomy 3 years ago. She currently is free of any evidence of residual colon cancer. Age under 50.

What is iupac name of petrolium ether?

The term "petroleum ether" refers to a mixture of volatile hydrocarbons derived from petroleum, primarily consisting of aliphatic hydrocarbons with a boiling range of approximately 30-60°C. It does not have a specific IUPAC name because it is not a single compound but rather a mixture. However, it mainly contains pentane (C5H12) and hexane (C6H14) along with other similar alkanes. In laboratory contexts, it is often used for extraction and purification processes.

Can anesthesia cause numbness of tongue for weeks after the shot?

I have found many posts from a Google search where people have had numbness on the tip of the tongue after anesthesia, and I am also experiencing it after 5 days. I didn't have a shot in my tongue; I had an IV, and nothing in my mouth, so I found it very strange. Others have had it with an operation that was in no way connected to the mouth, some had masks or other breating apparatus, but I had neither.

Phlebitis is a term that means inflammation of a blood vessel. Phlebitis occurs quite commonly after the insertion of an IV. This can occur any where from 2.5% to 45% or more, when an IV is used. There is a wide variation because it depends on how phlebitis is defined, such as the place the IV is inserted, the duration that the IV has been in place, the type of material that the IV is made of, the length of the IV catheter, and on the existence of other disorders, such as diabetes. If you continue to feel pain and have swelling for more than three weeks you should connect with your physician.

Will anesthesia cause gas and for how long?

I've been going through dental surgeries. I believe that anesthesia causes me to experience gastrointestinal distress. On the final procedure, it was necessary to use more than usual due to several factors. It was an extraction. When the tooth is inflamed, extra is needed. Also, the root of the bottom molar was located directly next a major nerve, so my dentist was concerned and wanted to avoid my discomfort and told he gave me more than he normally would. The next day I had a very large and rather loose bowel movement. Similar things have happened to me following previous dental procedures that involved anesthesia. Two days later though, I experienced something extraordinary. My stomach became very bloated. I had noticed this bloated feeling which got progressively worse and after 2 days it felt like I had been pumped up with air. It was noticeably extended and was hard like a basketball and was very painful. After passing some gas, it was apparent I needed to go to the bathroom. I had the most severe and extreme bout of diarrhea I have ever experienced in my nearly 60 years. The volume of gas that came out of me was impressive and incredible. Nothing remotely close has ever happened to me prior to this. Oddly, there was very little odor associated with either the gas and the excessive watery stool being forcibly expelled. I was reminded of what happens when one places his thumb on a garden hose. I have to admit that while this was going on, it was rather humorous because of the very loud and forceful gas. I would have never imagined such a thing. I immediately began feeling much better as this was going on, which lasted about 30 minutes. It would come in waves. As I sat on the commode, my intestines made all sorts of noises followed by a violent, yet somewhat comical expulsions. My wife was in the bedroom and couldn't help giggling. Other than a slight headache, I felt much better afterwards. This happened around 1am and I am writing this the following morning on August 20, 2013. I still have a headache and I feel as one does following a diarrhea episode, but much improved from just prior; I cannot stress how bloated I was. This was the most alarming thing about it and another thing that I have never before experienced. I know that this sounds somewhat unbelievable, but it's 100% true.
