Her symbol was an olive tree because that is what she gave to the Greek's in order for Athens to be named after her. Athena and Poseidon were fighting over who got to name the city and a more powerful god told them that whoever gave the people the best gift would get to name it. Poseidon gave the people a stream but it was salty and the people didn't like it. Athena gave them an olive tree and it supplied them with olives, olive oil, and wood that burned for a long time. So the more powerful god let her name the city and that is why her symbol is an olive tree.

The goddess Pallas Athena's parents were Zeus and Metis. Zeus tricked pregnant Metis into turning herself into a fly so he could swallow her. From the spit skull sprung Athena.

I would disragard the above answer...before Apollo took over the sun god duties they belonged to Helios and before him they belonged to a titan. Some say that Athena is Zeus first child because Metis (athenas moter) was Zeus first wife and he swallowed her when he found out she was pregnant...Athena grew up inside him so that when he cracked his head open she came out a fully grown women. Hera grew jealus(sp) and gave birth to hephaestus, after which she gave birth to her other children including eilytheia who was mentioned being alive before Apollo and Artemis's birth. (Hera and Zeus other children born before the twins are Ares, Hebe, and Eris.) And the twins are older than Hermes. On another not the older gods birth order was Hestia, Hades, Demeter, Poseidon, Hera, and then Zeus. The only god I cant fit is Aphrodite who could have been born from anywhere before Hestia to after Hermes...so who knows.

Probably in Consideration, her trait of Logic, Strategy, Boldness, Charismatic Nature, and Reason. She was notable heroic for setting arguments in this way, as well as being a decisive Olympian deity, and the patron goddess of Athens due to her logic.

She invented the, flute, trumpet, earthenware pots, plough's rake, the ox-yoke,the horsebridle, the chariot and the ship. Daughter of Metis the titaness and Zeus. Zeus ate Metis, and Athena was born fully armoured through a hole in Zeus's head. She never loses in battle.

It's difficult to list all of them, but one that comes to mind above the others is the incident with Medusa. Medusa was originally a beautiful, human virgin girl in service to Athena. Since Medusa was a virgin priestess, she could never get married or have children. However, this didn't stop one male from persuing her, Poseidon, god of the seas.

One day when Medusa was praying in Athena's temple, Poseidon came for her. Medusa prayed to Athena for protection, but got none, so Poseidon raped her on the cold floor. By the end, Medusa was devasted, and she prayed to Athena for comfort, but the goddess only felt disgust for her. So she decided to make sure no one would ever want Medusa again, and turned her into the snake haired, stone-gazed woman we're all familiar with.

So, Athena's failure here is not taking care of those who worshipped her, and making the situation worse by punishing the victim and turning her into a monster. Athena was responsible for Medusa, and failed.

Before Medusa was a monster, she was a victim of gods who betrayed her trust and devotion.

The people of her city, Athens, dedicated the most important Temple in Greece to her, The Parthenon.

before the city of Athens was named, Poseidon and Athena wanted it to be named after them so the had a competition of who could give to better gift. Poseidon gave a spring but the water was too salty. Athena gave an olive tree they thought this was the best because it gave shade wood and food.
