What is the distance between home plate and the pitcher's mound in meters?
There is no answer to that question, because there is no one zone that is "centerfield" and if you mean the wall, every park is different, an average park's centerfield wall is about 400 ft the outfield grass starts at about 130 ft, so from abot 200 ft to 400 ft.
What is the difference in the baseballs used in the American League and the National League?
American League baseballs with the Reach Trademark had Red & Blue stitching, and the National LeagueSpalding Trademark baseballs had Black & Red stitching up until about 1934/35 when in both league started using only red stitching.

Do all MLB players use Big Barrel Bats?
maybe but my wooden bat is long and hard just like a submarine
Who covers first base in baseball when a ball is hit to the first baseman?
On a ball hit on the ground to a right side infielder, that would be the shortstop. The shortstop would be running to the second base in such a way that they would be facing a throw from the first baseman, unlike the second baseman who would be running to the base and have their back to the first baseman.
On a ball hit to right field, in the ground or in the air, the shortstop would also be the player to cover second base as the second baseman would run into short right field to act as a cutoff.
Does reaching base on a sacrifice count as an at bat?
A base on balls counts as a plate appearance but not as an at bat. A base on balls does not affect a batter's batting average.
Addendum: it also counts as a time on base, and figures into the batters on base percentage. As well, if the bases are loaded, and the batter is walked, it counts as an R.B.I. for the batter.
Is it scored a strike out for the batter if he is hit in fair territory by his own batted ball?
If the batter is still in the batters box, it is a foul ball, otherwise, the batter will be ruled out, and it is a dead ball with runners returning to their bases
This is wrong, if the ball hits the bat a second time in fair territory the batter is out, standing in the batters box means nothing in this rule. see MLB rule 6.05 h
How far is it from home to in softball?
I have been in softball since second grade. I am now in the seventh and one thing i have learned is that the pitcher stands exactly 35 feet away from home.. and i should know this cuz i am and always will be the best pitcher on my team.
In baseball is it legal to hit a pitch that bounces first?
Yes, you can hit a bounced pitch the same way you can hit any other pitch considered a ball. It's the same as hitting a high pitch and has been done numerous times in the MLB.
Also, the official answer can be found in the Baseball Rule Book under Section II: Definition of Terms:
"A BALL is a pitch which does not enter the strike zone in flight and is not struck at by the batter. If the pitch touches the ground and bounces through the strike zone it is a "ball." If such a pitch touches the batter, he shall be awarded first base. If the batter swings at such a pitch after two strikes, the ball cannot be caught. If the batter hits such a pitch, the ensuing action shall be the same as if he hit the ball in flight."
No.
More info on the rule
Harris, (pitched with both hands as an Expo in 1995) was with six clubs over a 15-year career. When he was with Boston, word of his odd talent got out and Bobby Brown, the American League president, gave umpires these rules: The pitcher must indicate which hand he intended to use. The pitcher may change arms on the next hitter but must indicate the arm to be used. No warm-up pitches between the change of arms and if an arm is injured, the pitcher may change arms and the umpire must be notified of the injury. The injured arm cannot be used again in that game.
addition:
earlier this year in 2010 in a minor league game there was a situation with an ambidextrous pitcher who was pitching when a switch hitter came to the plate. After about 15 minutes of the pitcher switching hands and the batter switching sides of the plate, it was determined that the pitcher must declare which hand he will pitch with, and cannot change until the next batter. It is now a rule for MLB
Why can a hitter run to first base on a strike 3 when the catcher drops the ball?
I have played baseball my entire life, mainly as a catcher. This is simply a way to keep the energy of the game going. It is commonly called "round the horn", and the Catcher will throw to Third, Third to Second, and Second to Short, then back to the pitcher. It is a way to keep the infield peppy and active; sort of a very mild celebration for a strikeout. It is also done on a ground out, where the First baseman will throw to SS, SS to 2B, then 2B to 3B. You will rarely (if ever) see a throw around the horn if baserunners are on base. This is because of the high chance of a wild throw.
What is the distance from the batters box to home plate?
There is no set distance from home plate to the shortstop, because the shortstop doesn't have to stand in any specific spot. He can move forward for a bunt, shift left or right, or even position himself near the outfield depending on who is at bat.
What happens when a bunted ball hits bat twice?
That is a judgment decision to be made by the umpire. MLB Rule 6.5(H) states a batter is out when:
"After hitting or bunting a fair ball, his bat hits the ball a second time in fair territory. The ball is dead and no runners may advance. If the batter-runner drops his bat and the ball rolls against the bat in fair territory and, in the umpire's judgment, there was no intention to interfere with the course of the ball, the ball is alive and in play;
Rule 6.05(h) Comment: If a bat breaks and part of it is in fair territory and is hit by a batted ball or part of it hits a runner or fielder, play shall continue and no interference be called. If batted ball hits part of broken bat in foul territory, it is a foul ball.
If a whole bat is thrown into fair territory and interferes with a defensive player attempting to make a play, interference shall be called, whether intentional or not.
In cases where the batting helmet is accidentally hit with a batted or thrown ball, the ball remains in play the same as if it has not hit the helmet.
If a batted ball strikes a batting helmet or any other object foreign to the natural ground while on foul territory, it is a foul ball and the ball is dead.
If, in the umpire's judgment, there is intent on the part of a baserunner to interfere with a batted or thrown ball by dropping the helmet or throwing it at the ball, then the runner would be out, the ball dead and runners would return to last base legally touched."
The umpire must judge whether the batter intention dropped the bat in an area where it could be touched by the bunted ball. If the umpire ruled the batter did drop the bat in an area where the bunted ball would touch it, the batter is called out, otherwise, the ball is live and in play.
How far is major league baseball pitching mound?
The length for a pitcher's mound in the Majors is 60 feet 6 inches.
But in the Little League the length is 46 feet.
Is it called a ball when the softball hits the ground in front of home plate?
In most cases this is called a ball. If the batter swings at the ball and misses, however, the pitch is called a strike. If the player swings and gets on base, the ball is obviously not called anything.
When does an at bat not count?
Hit by the pitch, sacrifice, base on balls and I believe catcher's interference
Do walks affect batting average?
Walks count as an official plate appearance and are used in determining whether a player has met the minimum number of plate appearances needed to be eligible to win the batting title but are not used in calculating a player's batting average.
What if two runners are on same base however preceding runner advances but not runner is tagged?
Play continues until either one runner proceeds to another base or an out is made. Conversely if both runners are tagged the runner who occupied the base first is safe, unless there was a force on the play.
Can the designated hitter bat for anyone other than the pitcher?
Any player not currently in the game or having played in the game can substitute for and assume the role of the DH.
They do throw the balls out that have hit the dirt after it has been hit. Fielders finish the play and throw it back to the pitcher, and he will throw it back to the catcher to give to the umpire.
Once the ball is past first or third base, the ONLY consideration is where the BALL is located -- fair or foul -- when it FIRST comes in contact with either the ground or a player. If the player is almost entirely in fair territory when he first grabs the ball, but the glove that touches the ball is in foul territory, then it's a foul ball. "If the ball touches a fielder in-flight, the judgment is made at where the ball was when it was touched, NOT from where it may land after a miss, or drop of the ball, by a fielder. The position of the fielder is irrelevant."
The batter would not be given an RBI, it would be scored a run on a passed ball. If it was a passed ball it would be an unearned run, if it was a wild pitch then it would be an earned run. However, neither pitchers or catchers are given errors on wild pitches or passed balls
Who is the fastest little league pitcher in history?
I am not quite sure who the fastest pitcher in general would be, but a few pitchers such as Trey Quinn, Kennon Fontenot, and Kyle Carter are known for pitching in the low 80's. The fastest little league pitch I have ever seen was 84mph by Kyle Carter from Columbus, GA.
the run counts if the runner on 3rd base tags up and then crosses the plate prior to the runner on 2nd base being picked off.
If the player covering 2nd base fields the ball from the center fielder and tags the base for out # 3 prior to the runner on 3rd crossing the plate, the run would not count.
Correction:
Sorry I found the answer a bit confusing.
The run would count if the throw from CF to home was not in time and the runner on third touches the plate before being tagged. However the run would not count if there is an appeal to 2nd and the runner at 2nd never comes back to touch. The run would not count in this situation. This is considered a force out and no runs count on a force out for out number 3.
Batter gets hit by pitch but doesnt move?
If the runner is attempting to touch home plate, I would not call the runner out for incidental contact by his teammates. However, if they would, for example, carry him off the field and he never attempts to touch home plate, I would call him out when he reaches the dugout area.
