Batting cages are places where you go to practice your batting. They have a machine that will pitch the ball for you, and you stand there with a baseball bat and swing at the pitches, to see how many / how well you can hit. These automatic pitching machines normally pitch out synthetic baseballs or softballs, as opposed to official leather-clad balls.

Remember there are different weights of the balls. Slow pitch, fastpitch and dimpled batting cage balls all have different weights. With any composite bat used in the batting cages aren't reccumended. It may create a mild dent in your bat. If you have a fastpitch composite bat, DO NOT USE IN THE BATTING CAGES WITH THE DIMPLED BALLS.
