Actually you don't want to use a BB gun. BB guns & rifles are both smooth bore weapons. This means that they are inaccurate. The BB tumbles as it comes out of the barrel and can spin off target. Pellet rifles and guns have Rifles barrels (Grooves in the barrel) this makes the pellet spin just like a bullet. This makes it fly straighter and travel further. Also BB's do not deform when they hit a target and will make the squirrel suffer. Hunting pellets ( Hollow point ) will deform when they hit the target and kill it quickly and humanely. I suggest that you locate a good air rifle, it will start around $100 for a basic air rifle for hunting. See the link below to view air rifle and get an Idea of prices. If you are looking for a suggestion I would look at the Crosman model 2260 it is a short rifle that uses C02 cylinders and it shoots a .22 caliber pellet not a .177 pellet. The pellet is larger and better for hunting small game. The cost is around $85. The downside is: you can not leave a partially charged C02 cylinder in the gun overnight, it's too hard on the seals. You have to use up the whole cylinder charge ( about 80 shots per cylinder ) In fact you should never leave a C02 cylinder in and air gun over night. Your next option is to get a pump air rifle or break barrel rifle. So take some time and select one that fits your needs.

The Daisy model 1000 was made in 1997 then it was discontinued but came back as the Model 1000 Powerlne in 2009.

They also made a model 1000 in 1957-57 that looked similar to a Red Ryder for Western Auto
