Whatever you do DO NOT RUN. This makes you food and open to attack. Bears are scavengers and feed on just about any easy meal which is why they are often found at garbage dumps. You want to avoid confrontation or interest from them when you come upon them by surprise. The absolute best action when you see a bear is to back slowly away. Startled bears will most often make "fake" charges before actually attacking. Making yourself as big as possible with your arms above your head and in a normal voice GO BEAR! GO BEAR!! will make them realize you are human and feel you would NOT be an easy meal. Always keep moving away from the bear but never turn your back or move too quickly. You should always carry bear spray when moving around in bear country. You should also never hike alone. When hiking or walking in bear territory you should make lots of noise like talking loud or singing (some hikers wear bells on their boots to warn the bear they are coming) For the most part, bears will avoid contact with humans whenever possible. Be safe, carry bear spray and take the time to learn how to use it.

A bear hug is a big hearty hug, usually a bit rough, as though you were hugging a big bear.

Scientists have done many experiments and the result is that mostly all bears hibernate/sleep the whole winter. There are very few types of bears that do not hibernate the whole winter. The sloth bear, though, does sleep all winter.

All of them. Bear attacks can be fatal. If they want your food, let them have it. Back away slowly, avoiding eye contact, until plenty of distance is between you and the bear. You cannot outrun them. But they DO have a hard time running downhill, so that should the direction you run when you DO run.

Nothing eats bears, they are at the apex of the food chain.

Based upon the text and reading the book, the bear who leaves forever is Taqqiq, Kallik's brother. After so long, Kallik finds her brother from which she was separated from in the first book, by the Orcas that (sadly) killed Nisa, the mother. He seems violent and is not interested in Kallik anymore... He and his "wonderful" friends capture some of the black bears at Great Bear Lake (which include Lusa's new friend Miki) Ujurak shape-shifts and turns to a white bear with Kallik and they end up helping Miki and stopping Taqqiq. All of the bears, except Toklo who is on the wrong side of Taqqiq, are able to convince him to come with them on their journey, but mostly thanks to Kallik. Everything seems happy right? Well, not for long. In the beginning og Smoke Mountain, Taqqiq travels with the others, but he ends up telling Kallik that it is not his destiny to be with them. (awe) He leaves and Kallik is heartbroken, although Toklo doesn't really care.
