As I understand it, Babette ( diminutive of Barbara- like the famous doll- Barbie)is the younger sister of actress Brigitte Bardot. Mlle Bardot is a zealous animal-rights crusader. I don:t recall a Babette from the film you mentioned. in real life, she is the younger sister of actress Bardot. Breguet- spelled differently but Yank-style pronounced the same- is a famous French watch. They also made engine room telegraphs- and airplanes.

I have seen the film (cartoon version) and it is needlessly scary and confusing for kids. the plot is not too different than (love handicapped by some sort of say, facial disfigurement, handicap or accident) but here Black Magic plays a role. there are overtones of sacrilege. a young woman is abducted. abduction is WRONG as is Shanghaing and Piracy. to take someone"s freedom away from them-unless they have been adjudicated of committing a crime, is a grave miscarriage of justice. Love is supposed to be an open and equal exchange. the Beast abducts a young woman against her will- and no sugar daddy promises either. there are weird anti-religious passages often without dialogue- the God-Man-Dog- Man cycle which is disturbing even if silent running. If it was a case of someone with a health or injury problem, maybe some moral intrigue there, but as written and performed, I cannot say it is a good idea. abduction is wrong.

Repulsed by her haggard appearance the prince sneered at the gift and turned the old woman away, but she warned him not to be deceived by appearances for beauty is found within. And when he dismissed her again the old woman's ugliness melted away to reveal a beautiful enchantress. The prince tried to apologize but it was too late for she had seen that there was no love in his heart. And as punishment she transformed him into a hideous beast and placed a powerful spell on the castle and all who lived there. Ashamed of his monstrous form the beast concealed himself inside his castle with a magic mirror as his only window to the outside world. The Rose she had offered was truly an enchanted rose which would bloom until his 21st year. If he could learn to love another and earn her love in return by the time the last petal fell then the spell would be broken. If not he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time. As the years past he fell into despair and lost all hope for who could ever learn to love a beast.

Yes, it was a television drama. The (Patton) actor was done up in costume best resembling a Wart Hog in human form. his then-wife Trish Van Devere had the Belle role this was costume drama, not a cartoon. It got considerable coverage in the TV guide.
