Benadryl (diphenhydramine)

If your doctor has prescribed morphine for you tell them that you take Benadryl. USUALLY it is okay to combine them as Morphine can cause you to feel itchy. Both Benadryl and Morphine can cause drowsiness so caution should be used always when combining medication together. The maximum dose of Benadryl for an adult is 50 mg every 6 hours. It is difficult to answer this question as there are different kinds of Morphine, specifically MSIR which is short acting morphine and Extended Release or "ER Morphine (such as MS Contin) with is time released. DO NOT BREAK OR CHEW ER MORPHINE as it will "dump" it's entire amount into the body at one time instead of being given over a 8 to 12 hour period. (Avinza is a 24 hour morphine pill, extreme caution should be used when dealing with ER Morphine as it is available in generic and numerous difference brand names, the most common being Avinza, Kadian and MS Contin.) IF you have been taking morphine for a period of time, at least several months and are not sedated by it then you probably could take Benadryl and Morphine together. Better advice is "When in doubt call your doctor or your pharmacist!" Overdosing on medication is easier than one thinks, it is much better to be safe than sorry.

If your puppy has a medical condition requiring sedation (e.g. broken bone needs time to knit), then talk to your vet about options and choose an option that is appropriate for your dog's health.

If your puppy is simply too hyper for you, it most likely needs more exercise. In this case, sedation is animal cruelty.

This is not an official or anything, but I have been taking dyphenhydramine for sleep (which is the active ingredient in Benedryl), and I have been taking these for so long my body does not react to the "Normal" dosage, and I will take anywhere from 15-25 at a time. It will dry your sinuses out and it can make you hallucinate. If you do not eat it will also cause vomiting.

The short answer is yes. I was prescribed Azithromycin for a sinus infection. I felt that the medication was not working. So I called Walgreens and spoke with the pharmacist who stated that I can take both Benadryl with the Azithromycin 250mg. The best thing to do is to contact your local Pharmacist and tell him/her everything you are taking. Please remember that both drugs have a drowsiness effect. No, this would be a very bad idea. First, dogs need a much different dose of Benadryl than humans do, and skin absorption of Benadryl is very different between humans and dogs. You could cause a bad overdose with this without meaning to. Second, Benadryl cream is formulated to be placed on the skin ONLY - dogs tend to lick anyplace that is irritating them and are likely to lick this stuff off and eat it, potentially causing a bad medical reaction to the ingredients in the cream. Third, dogs really don't need a topical Benadryl - veterinarians use it to deal with bee stings and mast cell tumors, but those are both pretty rare and not something you would be handling on your own.

A calculated amount for an 8 pound dog would be .11 caplet. I wouldn't even try it without at least talking with your VET and knowing exactly what you're trying to relieve. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and Claritin (loratadine) are both antihistamines and therefore should not be taken together. Singulair may be taken with diphenhydramine or loratadine, but not with both.

During her last major cold, her pedi told us she could take the normal Tylenol dose depending on whether it was infant or childrens suspension and 3/4 tsp of Benadryl.

If she's not taking the Tylenol, a 1tsp dose of Benadryl was allowed, but the combo of full doses of both caused her to be so drowsy she couldn't function.

Drink plenty of water before bed and the hangover effect will be drastically reduced

There is no direct interaction listed between Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and LorTab (Hydrocodone and acetaminophen). Note however that many OTC meds containing diphenhydramine also contain acetaminophen, so your acetaminophen dose much be adjusted accordingly if you take these meds.
