Beowulf

After Grendel is defeated by Beowulf, his mother seeks revenge and attacks Herot Hall. Beowulf ventures to her underwater lair and slays her as well. Beowulf returns victorious to Geatland and eventually becomes king.

Beowulf does die during his battle with the dragon, but he is not shamed into the battle. A slave stumbled into the dragon's lair and has stolen a cup from the dragon's treasure. As a result, the dragon goes seeking the thief, murdering and burning everything as he goes. Bewoulf realizes that he must fight the dragon for his people, even though he is old. It is his job. He has a shield made of iron to protect him from the dragon's breath. He takes with him twelve of his men including Wiglaf, but at the crucial moment, eleven of his men run and hide; only Wiglaf goes on to help Beowulf. He finds Beowulf being held by the neck in the Dragons mouth. Beowulf's sword had failed him so Wiglaf attacked the dragon, taking his attention from Beowulf. While Wiglaf's attack was not fatal, it gave Beowulf time to retrieve his knife and and stab the dragon as well. Between the double attack, the dragon was killed.

Wiglaf then helped Beowulf out of the dragon's hold and took him aside. Beowulf was mortally wounded but Wiglaf helped the dying warrior see the Dragon's treasure before he died, and Beowulf made Wiglaf his successor. Wiglaf then goes and castigates the traitorous thanes hiding in the woods and banishes them from the kingdom. Finally Wiglaf builds a mound for Beowulf and mourns him. The great treasure Beowulf won from the dragon is buried with him. His men have not desire for it.

Grendel get fatally wounded and then dies.

In the story of Beowulf, besides Grendel's mother, other unnamed monsters are mentioned as dwelling in the marsh. These creatures are descendants of the biblical Cain, like Grendel, and are associated with darkness and evil. They are mentioned briefly in the text but do not play a prominent role in the story.

Grendel's mother attacks the Danes in retaliation for the death of her son, Grendel, who was killed by Beowulf. She seeks vengeance for the harm done to her family and to protect her own kind from further harm. Her attack is driven by a desire for retribution and the instinct to protect her own.

Unferth gave Beowulf an ancient sword called Hrunting to battle Grendel's mother.

As everyone at Herot settles in for the night, the hall is filled with the sounds of people chatting, laughter, and the crackling of the fire. The warriors lay down their weapons, sharing stories and enjoying the mead. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, creating a sense of camaraderie and community among the people gathered.

Beowulf's sword fails him when he attempts to use it to defeat the dragon, but the blade shatters upon striking the dragon's scales, proving ineffective against the powerful monster.

In the text, Gardner presents Grendel in the ring of 'gods' and meets a priest. The priest believes he is talking to 'The Great Destroyer', when really he is just talking to Grendel. This leads to a belief that one of the themes of Grendel is that gods are a figment of our imagination, only being called upon when human needs are not being met.

Also, whenever Grendel hears the men talking of their 'gods' he can't help but get angry because of their constant reminder that they are the chosen ones while he is not. He developes a strong hatred for 'god' and, although he still has the assumed inner feeling of wanting to be accepted, all of the people who serve him.

There is no specific monument built to Beowulf's memory. However, the epic poem "Beowulf" itself serves as a monument to the hero's bravery and deeds. The story of Beowulf has been passed down through generations and continues to be studied and appreciated as a significant piece of literature in English history.

In these lines from Beowulf, it is being described that Elan is the queen of Ongentheow and the beloved wife of Heathoscylfing, who are important characters in the epic poem. Elan is mentioned as a supportive and cherished companion to Ongentheow, highlighting her role in their society.

In "Beowulf," hate triumphs when Grendel's mother seeks revenge for her son's death by killing several people, including the warrior Æschere. She inflicts pain and suffering in her quest for vengeance, showcasing how hate can prevail and bring about tragic consequences in the narrative.

Wiglaf predicts the Geats' demise because their king, Beowulf, is old and weak, and many of their warriors have been killed by the dragon. Without strong leadership and sufficient warriors, they are vulnerable to attack and unable to defend their kingdom effectively.

Beowulf is thinking that he and his men will not make it home alive; they will die in battle against Grendel. He thinks this because all the Danes have died when they tried.

Grendel killed 30 men during his first visit to Heorot.

In 'Beowulf,' the warriors, who were witnessing Beowulf's battle with Grendel, attempted to help the warrior vanquish the monster by hacking away at Grendel with their weapons. However, the problem is that Grendel has a charm which protects him against weapons. As a result, it's through Beowulf's efforts alone, that Grendel is defeated.

No he is a Geat. However, in the Epic Poem there is another character known as Beowulf the Dane sometimes just called Beow. He was the Son of Scyld Sceafing and was King of the Danes. He was Father to Haelfdane and Grandfather to Hrothgar.
