Very briefly, for only a few months in 1344, England produced a gold Six Shilling coin called a Double Florin or Double Leopard. The coin was intended for use in both England and Europe but was unacceptable to traders. In Fine to Very Fine condition, such a coin might fetch anything from £52,500 to £225,000 GBP. The coin weighs 108 grains and shows Edward III enthroned under a canopy with a crowned leopard's head on either side and a cross in quatrefoil on the reverse. These coins are still potentially in circulation so, unless they are part of a Proof or uncirculated mint set or are individual Proof or uncirculated coins and in absolute mint condition, they are worth Two Pence.

A "copy" coin (that is, a fake coin made to look like a real coin, and generally labeled - in the United States, anyway - with the word "copy") could be composed of almost any metal. While certain high quality struck duplicates are composed of the same metal as the original (copper, silver, etc.), most others (especially those produced by pouring molten metal into a mold) are produced from lead or other base metals, or even occassionally from plastic.

My guess would be that it was plated with gold (or a gold-colored metal) after minting, and that it is thus worth about a penny.

Well, if the half-sovereign was brass, it is a copy and not worth anything. If it is genuine, it would be struck in gold. Bids on Ebay are around anywhere from 310 British Pounds ($447 USD/CAD, about 333 Euros) to 595 pounds ($915 USD/CAD, about 683 Euros). But keep in mind, if the coin is brass or is stamped "COPY" anywhere on the coin, it is a reproduction and not worth much of anything. The One Pound note was issued by a large number of different banks across the British Empire for at about 80 years. Most of these have some value for collectors and in some rare cases, very large values.

You need to provide the year. Without knowing the year it is impossible to value your coin. Crowns (5 shilling) pieces were minted in several different years and have vastly different values depending on what year they were minted in.

The old five pound Bank of England notes, printed in black ink on only one side of white paper, were issued from 1793 to 1957.
