Without any more information, you question is almost impossible to answer with any real degree of accuracy. Value will depend on where you live, how bad you want to sell it, condition, finish, accessories, box, papers, engraving,barrel length, detailed description of all markings, stock wood, etc.. You could be in the 50-300 USD range.

The bt 99 seril # is read as follows if one letter it is an early one like : 2xx d 8 . It was made in 1968.

Later they included two letters and the following number is the year made.

The manner in which you have asked your question almost guarantees it can not be answered with any degree of accuracy. You do not provide anything beyond the caliber and type of action. You need to give the overall condition, serial number, finish, sights, accessories, box, papers, any engraving, etc.. You might be in the 100-1000 USD and up range depending on specifics.

None of my references show a Model 999 made by Ruger as a rifle, shotgun, pistol or revolver. Are you sure it is a Ruger, and that 999 is the model number? Please provide some additional info (lie what type of firearm, description) and we will do our best to get you an answer.

1. Remove the magazine from firearm.

2. Disengage the safety, pull slide rearward and insure chamber is empty.

3. With slotted screw driver of proper size carefully remove the forward screw located on the rear sight bar. The rear screw is for elevation adjustment of the sight. The screw is screwed into the rear of the barrel assembly. Remove rear sight bar. You may want to add a little gun grease under the bar upon reassembly. TW25b by MilComm products is a good one.

4. With slotted screw driver of proper size carefully unscrew the large screw located under the barrel and in front of the trigger guard. Complete removal of the screw may be impossible and is in fact unnecessary. With this screw backed out adequately put the screw driver down and with one hand on the slide pull it rearward and with the other hand maneuver the barrel rearward and up off the frame. Place the barrel down taking care not to lose track of the barrel link cam pin which may fall out.

5. Carefully allow the slide to move forward taking care of the spring and spring guide that is between the rear of the slide and the frame post at the rear of the frame.

6. Assembly is reverse of disassembly. Take note of the position of the barrel link cam pin and how it fits into the slots on the frame sides when placing the barrel back onto the frame. Do not over-tighten the screws but be firm.

7. Except for the fact that this pistol has no way to lock the slide open, it could be adequately cleaned without taking it apart. I have often cleaned it while assembled but for a thorough job taking it apart, though not a must, is desirable.
