No; modern day Kenpo has deviated so much from its mother art Shaolin Kung Fu, that it is barely recognizable as a relative of the art. Kenpo does not even look like Kung Fu anymore.

I would say that both arts are great for self defense, but do not look pretty, but practical self-defense does not look pretty to begin with. Kenpo has been modified over the years, for example one of the original techniques I had seen uses an arm bar, while the modified technique simply breaks the arm with a hammer fist. Jeet Kune Do is great because it adds a great deal of boxing, and wing chun techniques that are not really used in Kenpo, as well as Jiu Jitsu. The great thing is that both of these arts add and modify techniques, for example, most Jeet Kune Do and Kenpo schools now teach more grappling today compared to 20 years ago. It is important to remember that Dan Inosanto, who is the person to go to for JKD, was a practitioner of Kenpo before training with Bruce Lee, and I believe that Bruce Lee noted that a Kenpo stylist named Steve Muhammed had the fastest hands in Karate that he had ever seen. Lastly, it is important to realize that a martial arts effectiveness also depends on the person, and also that studying both styles would not hurt, especially since JKD, or JKD Concepts anyways, always teaches its students to seek knowledge, absorb what is useful, and discard what is not.

Bruce lees son was Brandon lee. Brandon followed his fathers trade, but sadly, when he was acting for a movie, they were filming a scene where he gets shot, but someone accidently put real bullets in the gun instead of blanks, and Brandon was shot and soon after died.

Yes. On the rooftops of HK and in school during his teens, in the streets and when he attended university in the US and few other times when he was on set shooting (Muai Thai fighters shooting "The big Boss" and a fighter in HK shooting Enter the Dragon). He never lost a fight except one time when he was 13. Many people thought he was just an actor who knows few kicks and punches, but he was actually a very excellent and sharp kung fu and quick learner first. What's great about him was that he never stopped learning and improving his skills. He had been both a great student and teacher to a lot of great martial art practitioners in the US and HK. He normally improved his skills by challenging someone who hold a higher rank in martial art practices. (i.e. Dan Inosanto & Jhoon Rhee)

I wouldn't recommend practicing any martial art by DVD, because, beginning students learn better in a community type environment [working out with others their same age/ size. New students also need to be watched/ corrected by an instructor.

Also, kung fu is a misnomer. =Kung fu in Chinese means to excel at something. Chinese martial arts are called gung fu.
