Bruise coloring goes through a natural progression. At first, it can look purplish or pink to reddish. This is because blood from cappillaries (very small blood vessels) has leaked into surrounding tissues.

Within a day or so, bruises can look brown or black showing that the previous bleeding under the skin is "old". From the moment a bruise occurs, the body sends natural defenses to the area to do "clean up" inside and help it heal. Bobbi Brown Corrector. It's usually used as a concealer for intense dark circles, but if you got a darker shade, it would work as an excellent cover-up.
