The notes are all relatively in the same places, but the electric bass is on a much smaller scale and has frets, making fingerings generally easier. Also, bass guitar uses all four fingers independently (e.g. index on F, middle on Gb, ring on G, and pinky on Ab), while, because of the bigger scale, double bass only uses three fingers independently (e.g. index on F, middle on Gb, and pinky on G supported by ring finger)
A cello size is as follows:
Body Length
1/8 size - 17.75 to 20 inches
1/4 size - 20 to 23 inches
1/2 size - 23 to 26 inches
3/4 size - 26 to 27.25 inches
4/4 size - 30 inches and above
edit:
Full size cello should be about 27.4... Stradivarius standard. Not sure about smaller cellos.
The frequency of the vibrations by the strings and the sound that it produces can be divided (or multiplied) into smaller (or larger) frequencies. The changed frequencies make notes. For example, middle C has a frequency of 278.4375 Hz and the A above that has a frequency of 440Hz.

The cello was invented by an Italian man, Andrea Amati, in the mid 1500s.
The cello is a stringed instrument that looks similar to a violin, but immense. Not as obese as a bass, but big. It has no shoulder rest, but an end pin which supports the cello. The end-pin sticks in the ground and adjustable while the cello rests on your thighs and shoulder unlike the violin when it rests on your shoulders and hand. It has thicker strings and because of its size and strings, it has a lower, deeper sound. It usually does not have the melody unless it speaks out its beautiful solo. If you listen to a classical CD or radio station, if you listen closely you hear it. Not the lowest and calmest, but the exciting deep wave like the ocean. Its bow has a different lengths too. I suggest going to You-Tube, My Space, a book store, etc. and listen to one of the greatest cello legends, Yo Yo Ma (you'll see). Just because it's classical and that doesn't mean it sucks. There are electric cellos that also can adjust to the rock atmosphere. You don't believe me, check www. mark wood.com (not my website, I'm just a 12, Korean American 6th grade boy in Arizona)! Or type in cobra cello or viper cello. It's awesome! Honestly, I am a cello player myself, I am went to 2 state honors orchestra (last year I got 2 chair and on Feb. of 2009 I got 4 chair. Did pretty good for a sixth grader. The three chairs in front were 8. And sixth is the lowest grade possible in the middle school concert unlike last year in the elementary. TAKE THAT KAVAN! Yeah that's right!) and will be going to an All State concert soon. Last year, I went to one of those honors orchestra things, and there I met Mark Wood. I got second chair and had a heck of a time. Cello isn't always Beethoven Mozart, Bach....it's playing the music you desire with the most finest beautiful voice of all instruments (just my opinion). When I am bored, I play it. It's the only thing that makes me happy. Yes, Yes, you may think Call Of Duty 5 is better. Sometimes I think that too. But when I am frustrated of it or bored cause I'm all alone. I just play it. I t makes me calm and relaxed. Excellent! So I suggest giving it a try. CELLO doesn't suck, IT DOMINATES! Sorry if I went a little too far, but after all, I'm 12 and play the cello AND next week, I perform at the honors orchestra.
Some of the most revered cello composers include:
J.S. Bach
J. Haydn
C. Saint-Saens
B. Romberg
R. Strauss
D. Shostakovich
E. Elgar
R. Schumann
L. Boccherini
Normally you are supposed to put lots of rosin on your bow. I'm 2nd chair in a orchestra, so I know. If you want to clean it off your strings you can use steel wool or cloth, but to clean rosin off you are not supposed to.
--------------------------------------------------------------
YOur supposed to puit rosin on your bow, but if you want to take it off what I do is play and the rosin comes off. YOur supposed to put it on the bow though.
A cello has 4 strings. Cellos are tuned in fifths, starting with C2 (two octaves below middle C) as the lowest string, followed by G3, D4, and A4. It is tuned the same way as the viola, only an octave lower.
Yes, generally if you practice in private, but show your abilities only in performance, after having mastered a piece of music. As long as you don't play both in solo in one performance, because this can be seen as pretentious.

Also, make sure when you perform on the cello you are wearing a long skirt or pants.
The 'cello is usually played in a sitting position, however, it may also be played standing, kneeling or prone! These other positions are usually frowned upon by conductors!

Cello most commonly uses the bass clef, but it also sometimes requires knowledge of the tenor and treble clefs. So, no. It's best to learn all of the clefs anyway because they aren't difficult and are easy to remember.
1st string.. C, U, N, T
2nd string.. A, S, S, H, O, L, E
3rd string.. T, W, A, T
4th string.. K, N, O, B

On an existing cello, adding a pickup would be the simplest way.
There are several pickups available for cellos on the market. Doing a Google search for 'pickup for cello' gets several results. It is saved as a bit.ly link, but those don't work in Wikianswers.
The URL for the Google search is posted in the Related Links, but if you have problems with the link for the google search, then just go directly and do the search. I'm directing you to the search, because there are numerous available, and it's not the place here to recommend one over another.
The whole cello vibrates~your bow vibrates the string, which sends the soundwaves into the big part of the cello, which makes the beautiful noise. c:
I don't think so, but Mozart might have. He did play the Harpsichord and the Violin, but i am still not sure about the Cello.
MANY people play the cello. (Including me, Yo-yo mo, Rostropovich, Ha-Na Chang. etccc~)
