More than 13 million migrant workers are in the United States. These are people who travel from state to state, following the crops of the agricultural industry. 88 percent or more of these workers are male, 55 percent of those being married men. More than 65 percent are illegally in the country, and more than 93 percent of these workers are foreign born.

As the word "migrant" suggests, a migrant worker is one who moves from place to place to do their job. This is most common in agriculture because crops need to be harvested at different times due to the type of crop or they area the crop is being grown. Many farm workers are migrants because they move from place to place as needed.

Farm

There were no awards of the Medal of Freedom in 1948. For more information, see the attached link.

Actually, this is not exactly right. My grandfather, John R. Schultz, was awarded the Medal of Freedom on June 2, 1948 at Fort McKinley for "services rendered to American Prisoners of War during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines." I have a letter signed by a Captain Stubbs, dated May 18, 1948 advising my grandfather that he had received this honor: the medal is in kept by his eldest grandchild. However, when conducting my own research with my son, I saw that the look of the medal is totally different to the one of today. I do know that in 1962, President Kennedy issued a Presidential Decree changing the name to the Presidential Medal of Freedom and he expanded the award to include contributions of citizens in all facets of life.

So, that's the concrete information I do have, but unfortunately, I have been unable to

find any information on the web regarding 1948 recipients. There's obviously a piece of information missing somewhere. If anyone out there can help me solve this mystery please contact me.

Cesar Chavez was a Mexican-American who co-founded the National Farm Workers Association. He became the best known Latino civil rights leader. His approach used public relations to unionism, and his tactics were aggressive but non-violent.

For one, Chavez used fasting, like Gandhi. And two, MLK believed he would die for his cause. Their was simply less threat on Chavez's life than King.

Gandhi received an advanced education and Chavez did not.

Entrepreneurs are job creators in the society. Also, they innovate new products that could make life easier for the consumer. They create new industries which is the key component for job creation.

They were treated badly, they were disciminated against and they were yelled at. They were also forced to retreat to a camp where they felt safe. "Everybody in the world is equal. You should treat your neighbor or enemy as an equal"- Vicky Bell. People in the 1930s were very racist, one great example of this is the book or film called of mice and men By John Steinbeck.
